I like to go to weddings of my friends
but I'm poor and can't afford a gift to send
So I make 'em a song
well tell me how can that be wrong?
and they say "c'mon Don we asked you for a blender!"

p.s. Aaron (of Shrouded Strangers, Nethers, Carlsonics, Pony League, Woodlanders, and Hollow Wolf) just launched his coffee roasting biz. Click on the image and get some totally sweet brew!

Side A:

My girl says she hates that 'ole job
If I saw it, that job I would rob
I'd snatch it right up
and hide it in a cup
Now you're free, so let's go to Prague!
(or New Zealand)

Randy Scope plays drums and Olivia Mancini plays bass guitar on "I'll Be On My Way."

Abby Hannan plays violin on "The Mountain's High!"

B
Lab Tone

These pieces are based on the lovely Ace Tone drum machine in my practice space. Speaking of practice spaces, I'm lucky to have one so close to my apartment. I'm also lucky to have one so close to other amenities such as:

Loud construction work
Intermittent jack hammer drilling
Noisy trucks
The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway
Repetitive (and metronomic?) CLANGING!
an ice cream truck
Police and ambulance sirens

Really, it's like having your own built-in experimental band everytime you walk in.

At the Garden Wall

with the Onions

"At the Garden Wall" .....last spring I made up some faux "oldies" songs that I hope to record one day with my friend Olivia (of Ed and Donna). A handful of the songs were sowed by way of a stroll past the florist shop on Court Street. The owner of this particular shop always has a stereo speaker stationed just outside the front door. From this speaker comes a wonderful, magical wealth of real and, usually, obscure oldies gems. Fortunately for me, I rarely know the songs being played and this is where My plan takes action! I walk by, not stopping, listening to the music....listening, listening, listening.....fading, fading, faded.....I continue my walk home, attempting to retain some sort of melody.... humming, word-playing, morphing, *blrip***zirge---singe++. I reach home (roughly ten minutes later), grab the guitar and roll with whatever came from that.

Hmmmm.....Stealing? Yes! Plagiarism? Probably! Either way, of those "oldies" jams, about five were created using this method. Unfortunately, this is not one of them.

Flashlight

Need some earplugs for complete relocation * Get off the bricks, go lookin' for jewels, wrap up conversations, tinker with bells, look up at the grass.

* I've been here many times before but the doorbell always changes. The room seems to have been resurrected as well dd* Under lime green skies....pulsing fabrics....

ddddddddddddd* When the road reaches a suitable bend look upon it with your cowbell and straw hat in hand. Mr. Ferzella may be there, dodging sound cats, leaping over the words caught in his mouth. Some mentioned veering towards the untongued mimes. I can't remember when or why.

*all violin played by the lovely Abby Hannan

Some covers for you this week.

The roots of the standard "Corrine, Corrina" are sketchy at best, possibly reaching as far back as the 19th century. In 1926 Blind Lemon Jefferson's "Corrina Blues" contained similar lyrical content, but the first known recording in this musical style came from Bo Carter in 1928. You can download an mp3 of that version here.
